Behold the many wonders of the Amazon River! From the most diverse species of fish in the planet, to large mammals such as the beloved river dolphin, there certainly is nowhere else quite as amazing. Amazon River water quality is threatened- let us tell you why and present some plans for conservation. The Amazon River dolphin is threatened from natural and anthropogenic sources, and we'll tell you why and how we can help. Did you know a vast coral reef was recently discovered off of the mouth of the Amazon River? This newly discovered reef already has conservation problems and we will present to you some solutions. Large amounts of dams are popping up on the nearly 4000 mile Amazon River stretch, disrupting the native fish who thrive here, we will explain just how to protect these fish whose homes have been disrupted.

The Amazon River contains nearly one fifth of the Earth's fresh water. Plant and animal species alike need water to survive. Within the Amazon River Basin, there are numerous threats posed to the quality of the river. As clean water is continuously contaminated, more species will be at risk. In this case study, anthropogenic consequences on the Amazon River will be explored and current conservation efforts will be explained.

Amazon River Dolphins are specially adapted to their namesake river. These endangered creatures are apex predators, and as such they are one of the first species in trouble when habitat destruction comes into play. Human interaction is the leading threat to these dolphins. In this case study, the different threats coming from humans are illustrated. Current conservation efforts are discussed, as well as the future of these graceful swimmers.

Recent scientific studies have discovered a coral reef existing at the mouth of the Amazon River. While coral reefs were previously believed to be dependent on clear water to thrive, the existence of this reef in the Amazon shows otherwise. At the mouth of the Amazon, the water is extremely muddy and clouded. Having a reef that can thrive in these conditions will prove extremely valuable in coral reef conservation worldwide. This case study will delve into threats present to this newly discovered reef, and what conservation efforts are being done in order to protect this special habitat.

In the Amazon River, the appearance of hydroelectric dams is erupting. Among the many species affected by these dams, the Amazon catfish is the species most affected by their appearance. These fish need the entire river length in order to complete their life cycles. Within the Amazon, hydropower is the go to resource of energy for economic reasons. With the ever increasing population, more energy is always needed. This case study will describe how the ever increasing dam presence will affect species in the Amazon River, especially the Amazonian Catfish. It will also present some current conservation actions being done in order to decrease dam effects.
